EMPLOYMENT ACT FRAUDS.
FATHER OF ELEVEN CHILDREN. (Bv Telegraph.—Press Association.) DUNEDIX, this day. "This will be one of the most difficult cases of this type your Worship will have to ileal with,'' said Chief Detective Young in the Police Court when a married man with 11 children. Clarence Harold Lowe, pleaded guilty to 12 charges of making false statements under the Employment Act. Lowe's children, it was' stated, ranged in age from 14 to two years. Accused had been on sustenance for a considerable time and was also receiving a ration allowance of 5/ weekly "and family allowance of 10/ weekly. Accused had declared his earnings as nil, but subsequently it had been ascertained that for 12 periods he had been working. As a resu/lt of his statements lie had leceixed £.3.) in excess of the amount to which he was entitled and an additional £14 as rations allowance. For six weeks his total income exceeded £K. for eight weeks £7, for 10 weeks £« and for 13 weeks £o. On the first charge accused was fined £5, payment to be suspended under a further order of the Court. On the remaining charges he was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence within two vears.
