ROSE SHOW.

ATTENDANCES UP. SPECIAL EXHIBITS. r — < DECORATIVE DISPLAYS. < i The annual rose show of the Auckland ( Horticultural Society was continued today in a large marquee on the lawn next the forecourt of the Auckland railway station. A wealth of blooms is displayed and the show is receiving well-merited patronage. The show has been arranged as a garden by the society's architect, Mr. H. L. Massey, and although roses predominate many other blooms are on show. Although to-day was dull and squally, large crowds attended from early in the morning, and Mr. T. K. Hickson, president of the society, said that attendances were much greater than last year. Among the special exhibits are some outstanding displays. Making a fine showing is an interesting and representative group of cut roses cultivated by Mr. F. Penn. This contains examples of tlie old moss rose, single roses and the everpopular dwarf polyanthus. Some fine blooms are to be seen in the pansy section. The classes for cut flowers make a brilliant show, irises catching the eye with their deep tones of bronze, yellow, purple and blue. Thousands of blooms are included in a magnificent display of roses in the centre of the marquee, arranged by Cutler and Son, of New Lynn. Many of these are being shown for the first time in Auckland. Foliage plants, irises and golden broom are exhibited by Wychwood Nurseries, Kotorua. Duncan and Dayies, of New Plymouth, have on show native and other plants, included in which is a remarkable manuka with its pale pink flowers nearly one inch in diameter.
