SETTLERS SEEK RELIEF. (By Tr.legrapli.—Own Correspondent.) ' THAMES, this day. Til order to take advantage of the ; coming -visit to the district of the i Minister of Public Works, the Hon. R. Scniple. a deputation representing Wharepoa settlers waited oil the Thames County Council yesterday and requested it to arrange a deputation to the Minister to enlist his support in providing better drainage for tlie prevention of flooding in that district. The chairman. Mr. H. Lowe, stated that it was the intefition of the council to interview the district engineer at Paeroa on the matter, and invited the settlers to appoint representatives to accompany the council. The chairman referred to the sudden death in Auckland of Mr. H. T. G. Mellrov. who occupied the position of county clerk at Thames for several years. While in the employ of the council. he said, Mr. Mellrov had been a zealous and capable officer. A vote of condolence to liis relatives was passed. The supervisor, Mr. J. H.
