MINISTER'S UNDERTAKING.

(From Our Correspondent.) THAMES, Thursday. An assurance tliat no further lands would be adde<l to the State forest area in the Thames district except where it was obviously in the public interest was received from the Commissioner ot State Forests, the Hon. F. Langstone, by the Thames County Council at its meeting to-day. The taking up of large areas of land in the Thames County for afforestation purposes by the Forestry Department has recently been the subject of protests b/ the council, which has objected ito its rateable land being taken away.
