PROTEST BY FARMERS.

JUDGING OF COMPETITIONS. (By Telegraph.—Own CorresDondent.)' NEW PLYMOUTH, this day. An emphatic protest was voiced today by the North Taranaki Farmers' Union against the discontinuance of judging by officers of the Agricultural Department of farmers' hay, ensilage and root crop competitions. The decision was described as a retrograde step. The president, Mr. H. E. Blvde, said that he could not agree that if judging was carried out in hny and ensilage it would mean a sacrifice in pasture work. The officers themselves admitted that the information gained through the competitions was of definite value to them.
