MAORI INFANT'S DEATH. DUE TO SUFFOCATION. i (From Our Own Correspondent.) TAUMARUXUI, Thursday. An inquest was held to-day concerning the death of Lillian Stafford, an infant Maori girl, wlio was found dead in bed yesterday morning. The mother, Mary Stafford, said she lived at Tuhua. on the Stratford line. After feeding the child the previous evening she retired for the night. The child was placed on her back with a high pilloy under her head. In the morning the child was d£ad. Dr. Welbv Fisher said the cause of death was suffocation. The placing of the child's head on an unduly high pillow would be sufficient to cause suffocation without the head being covered with bed clothes.
