TYBALT WINS.

WHANGAREI CLUB. SIMINT'S EASY VICTORY. SURPRISE BY RAEPATA. i (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent..) WHANGAREI. this day. The weather is fine for the opening day of the Whangarei Racing Club's spring meeting. There is a larg.; attendance and the track is in excellent order. A Surprise. After being well back early Raepata finished in very attractive style to win the Hikurangi Handicap. Droll, who was near the rear in the early part, also came home well. As they passed the stand the order was Gai Wind, Hop. along. Lythite, Mai de Mer, with Droll and the Vamp handy, and Raepata at the rear. Along the back Hopalong and Mai de Mer were together in front with Gai Wind and Droll on terms next, followed by Raepata and The Vamp, with Lythite tailed off. They raced in that order into the straight, where Raepata came through, to win going away by five lengths from Droll, who finished fast to beat Hopalong by a short head. The Vamp was fourth, followed by Mai de Mer and Gai Wind.

The Maiden Event. After being in the money recently, Raceline scored her first success when she beat the opposition in the Spring Plate. .She finished on solidly, as also did Viracious, who was runner-up. Flashing Spear led out from Viracious, Raceline, Hunting Blood and Olimalia. The order along the Iwck was Flashing Spear, Viracious, Lapidarian, Hunting Blood, with Olimalia. Raceline and Golden Spahi next. As they turned for home Flashing Spear, Viracious and Ohmaha were together in front, followed by Lapidarian and Raceline, but over the last furlong Raceline got up to win in a close finish by half a length from Viracious, with Flashing Spear a nose away. Beverley was fourth, followed by Olimalia, Golden Spahi, Lapidarian, and Hunting Blood. The last-named ran wide at the home turn.

Led All The Way. Taking charge after jumping tlie first fence, Simint secured an easy win in the Huanui Hack Hurdles. His task wa« made considerably easier owing to Kilberis. the favourite, making a couple of faulty jumps. When they were let go Kilberis led from Backblock, Simint, Siwell anrl Gay Cavalier. Passing the stand Simint was clear of Gay Cavalier with Backblock and Kilberis on terms next. There was no change along the back, and turning for home Simint was half a dozen lengths ahead of Kilberis, with Backblock next a similar distance away, and the others beaten off. The leader held the advantage to the post and won by eight lengths from Kilberis, with Backblock five lengths away. Gay Cavalier wa* a bad fourth, with Siwell a long way back.

An Overdue Win. Orac and Tybalt jumped out first, and passing the stands were showing the way to Sergia, Bonny Gay and Tip Toes, and along the back the order wa« unchanged. Crossing the top the field commenced to bunch up with Orac and Sergia together, followed by Bonny Gay, Tip Toes and Tybalt. Over the last half furlong Tybalt came through on the fence, knd, hard ridden, got up to win by a neck from Sergia, who beat Orac by a head. Tip Toes was fourth and Bonny Gay laet.
