TRAVEL CLUB.

FOURTH BIRTHDAY.

The reception hall of Milne and Choyce was a perfect setting for the "Bal de Tet«T last evening, given by the Auckland Travel Llub members to celebrate the fourth anniversary of the club. A large number of members attended, and striking features were the headdresses of many nations, which were worn with beautiful modern evening gowns of this season. The men also entered into the jollity of the dance by wearing sombreros, tartan tam-o'-shanters and high shiny hats. The guests were received by the president, the Hon. Eliot R. Davi'g, and Mrs. Davis, who wore a frock of ivory crepe suede, embroidered by crystal beads, and by the honorary director, Mrs. Victor Marky, who was*in a black flounced crepe and metal bodice, and a Puritan headdress. The Tudor rooms were specially gav in their decorations of lemons and gold Iceland poppies, while the men's dining room was tastefully set for bridge and mnh jong. During supper Mr. Davis made particular reference to Monsieur E. Meyer. Consul for France at Auckland, and Madame Meyer, who were special guests at the ball. The latter wore a gown of cinnamon brown lace, with a brown cire taffeta coatee. She was presented with a bouquet of flowers by Mrs. Davis. The birthday cake, which was exquisitely decorated and held four lighted candles, was cut by Mrs. Macky. The judges for the grand parade were Monsieur and Madame Meyer and Mrs. J. O. Oroeninger. Prizes were awarded to Mrs. R. A. Green, who wore an Egyptian headdress, and Mr. J. McKenr.ic Wil*>on, who wore a Scottish one. The four successful years of the Travel Club were referred to by Mr. Davie, who said its work was of national importance. By welcoming tourists to New Zealand it performed a valuable service in giving first impres- { <ions to the visitor* who came here. Fie mentioned that the club was proud to have included among it* recent distinguished guests Mis* Jean Batten, ind he exhibited a miniature aeroplane [•laced on the official supper table as a rrilmte to her recent epic flight.
