MAXIMUM CHARGE FIXED.

CONTROL OF RIVER. PROPERTY

(By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, this day. Several amendments have been made to the Borough of Xgaruawahia Empowering Hill by the Local Bills Committee of the House of Representatives.

The report of the committee was presented to the House to-day by the chairman, Mr. J. W. Munro. The name of the bill has been changed to the Xgaruawahia Borough Council Empowering Bill.

A clause in the bill, as originally drafted, authorised the council to admit persons and vehicles to the point at the junction of the Waikato and Waipa Rivers upon payment of a sum to be determined by the council, but the committee has amended the clause so as to limit the payment to not more than 2/ for any person or vehicle. Another amendment states that the council is not to delegate power to close the point or to fix charges for admission thereto, but it is authorised to permit the Xgaruawaliia Regatta Association or any other body to which delegation is made to retain the whole or any part of the charges for admission or rent. Subject to these amendments, the committee recommended that the bill be allowed to proceed.
