CUBAN FOR TRIAL.
STRIKING BLONDE'S STORY. PHOTOGRAPHY ON MOORS. (Special.—By Air Mail.) LONDON, October 2. A "Mies X," aged 24, alleged a.t Leeds* that a man photographed her in a bathing costume on Ilkley Moor for advertising purpose and on another ' occasion massaged her in the nude. He Maid her measurements were not what was required for the photograph*. Leslie Ramon Romero, -,i.ged 31, said to be a Cuban, wan charged with obtaining £22 10/ by false pretences and also with assaulting the girl, whose name and address at the request of the magistrate were suppressed. Mr. R. C. Davics, proaecutinjr, said Romoro represented himself to "Miss X" as an agent for a firm of lipstick manufacturers. Aa Agreement. He also said that he was the agent for other firms for obtaining photographs of suitable girls in suitable positions for advertising purposes. Romero obtained from her an agreement to pose for photographs. He told her it would be necessary to have a number of photographs, and for this she paid him £3. Romero then sa.id that "Miss X's" measurements were not quite as required and she would need to undergo certain uiassage treatment. Romero represented that he was a qualified masseur, and "Miss X" went to rooms in Springfield Place, Leeds, where lie persuaded her to be massaged completely in the nude. Romero also took "Miss X" on to Ilkley Moors and there persuaded her to e flange into a bathing costume and pose for • number of photographs.
Girl's Story. Inquiries disclosed that Romero had no connection whatever with the firm he said he represented, nor was he in any way authorised to supply photographs of girls for advertising purposes or for film purposes. Mr. Davies added that the assault was a technical common law assault. "Miss X," a striking-looking blonde, stated in the witness-box that on the first occasion on which she was massaged she removed only har drees and Romero massaged her legs. But on the next occasion, at his request she removed the whole of her clothing. The ma-ssage treatment took place both in her own home and also in Romero's rooms. At no time did Romero ever make any improper suggestions to her. On the suggestion of the magistrate the amount in the charge of false pretences was amended to one of £12 10/. Romero, who was committed for trial on bail, pleaded guilty to the false pretences charge, but not guilty to the charge of assault. •
