TO HELP REFUGEES.
i CONFLICT IN CHINA.
APPEAL LAUNCHED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) 1 WELLINGTON, Monday. A public meeting of citizens and members of interested organisations called by the Mayor of Wellington, Mr. T. C. A. Hislop, to-day discussed wavs and means of raising" money to assfst refugees suffering through the present conflict in China. The meeting decided to proceed with raising funds, and to work in with the Red Cross Society and the Order of St. John, which * have already launched an appeal. It was decided to leave the distribution of the money to the Red Cross Society. A special Chinese appeal committee has been set up by the council of the Order of St. John and the Red Cross Society, with Sir James Elliott as chairman. The committee aims to raise £10,000 in a month with the cooperation of other organisations. Mrs. T. H. Lowry has made a donation of a number of special stamps to be sold to motorists in order to , defray the initial expenses. Mrs. Lowry has given £20 and Sir James Elliott £10 to the fund.
