DEMAND FOR ORANGES. PEARS SELL SLOWLY. I MOST VEGETABLES CHEAPER. The demand for choice quality linen of ' fruit at tile city market*? to-day was fair, j I though inferior grade had a slow sale. I j Choice quality apples were in fair demand, | j but pear* w 're dull of sale. The market j for Xew Zealand grapefruit and lemons is | ! still slow, but oranges are in good demand. Hothouse tomatoes had a fair inquiry, and tree tomatoes and pineapples had a slow i demand. Californian grapes had a fair ' inquiry. Cabbage and cauliflower were in much heavier supply, with prices a little lower. Better supplies of peas were available at lower values than last week, and new potatoes were in good supply, with prices firm. Canadian onions were more plentiful. the quality being excellent. Pumpkins were in short supply, with high prices ruling. A good supply of kumaras was available to-day, and there was a better supply of lettuce, spinach and rhubarb, prices being about the game. Prices of beetroot were higher. Poultry. At to-day's auctions the supply of poultry was medium, with a fair amount of young cockerels, and the demand was fairly keen all round. The prices paid were slightly lower for prime cockerels. Selling rates were as follow:—Cockerels: Heavy •breeds, prime., 5/ to 6/ each; not prime, 2/6 to_3/9; light breeds, prime, 3/ to 4/; not prime. 2'6 to 3/6. Fat roosters: Heavy breeds, prime. 2/6 to 3/9; light breeds, j 1/6 upwards. Fat hens: Heavy "breeds, 3/6 | to 5,6; light breeds, 2/6 to 4/.
