MAN WITH SORE THROAT.
INTOXICATED IX CAR.
Edwin Raynor Prouting, aged 25, a furrier, had a sore throat on Saturday.
This wae one of the matters mentioned by his counsel, Mr. E. Thurlow Field, in the Police Court yesterday, when Prouting admitted that on Saturday lie was in a etate of intoxication while in charge of a motor car in Green Lane Road.
Sub-Inspector Fox said that at 2.45 p.m. on Saturday traffic inspectors Keiman and Chandler, while on duty in Green Lane Road, saw a car being driven at a moderate speed, but in a zigzag manner. They called on Prouting to stop, and he did so. It w T as then seen that he was in an advanced state of intoxication. The cons-table at the watohhouse said that Prouting was in tears when he was brought in. He admitted he had two quarts of beer. Although traffic was heavy at the time there was no accident. A native of America, who had only been in New Zealand four years, Fronting had never been in any trouble before. '
Mr. Thirlow Field said Prouting suffered from a sore throat on Saturday and was unable to eat.
"His condition was not consistent with his being unable to swallow," said Mr. Wyveni Wilson, S.M.
Counsel added that in consequence of not having any food, the three shandies that he had consumed had no doubt affected Fronting more than they would have clone under ordinary circumstances.
Prouting was fined flO and his driving license was suspended until next May.
