After a three-hours' conference between the Prime Minister and representatives of the Federation of Labour, Mr. Savage announced last evening that a settlement had been reached in connection with the hold-up which arose last week through the refusal of waterside workers to handle cargo for Japanese ships loading at New Zealand ports. Several members of Cabinet attended the conference.

"The Federation of Labour and the Waterside Workers' Union have agreed to Advise their affiliated bodies to work the ships," said Mr. Savage in an official statement. "The ordinary channels of trade will remain open."
