The best of the early cards in the amateur foursomes w-ere returned by J. P. Hornabrook and W. Home. They both played very steady golf, with Hornabrook maintaining the consistent form he has shown over the past week. A definite recovery of form has been shown by the Australian amateur, Hattersley. It is now evident that he has conquered local conditions. Ho was partnered to-day by Cutler, and but for the latter failing on the greens and with his chip shots, their card of 77 would have been much better. Hattersley appears certain to be a strong contender for the amateur crown.
