THREE KILLED IN GREEK BAT CRASH.
BRITISH MACHINE. Flying Boat's Bad Landing In Fog. SURVIVOR'S EXPERIENCE. United Press Association.—Copyright. (Received 12.30 p.m.) ATHENS, October 1. Imperial Airways' flying boat Courtier, en route from England to Alexandria, made a faulty landing in fog on the Phaleron Harbour and is now awash in shallow water. Three passengers were drowned.
The victims were Wing-Commander D. Acland, an Englishman; Roy Henderson, an American; and Alexander Eleftarakis, a Greek. Four of the remaining six passengers were sent to hospital. The crew of five escaped unhurt. The Courtier had no mails aboard. Captain F. S. Wilkins, of the accidents branch of the Air Ministry, is leaving immediately for Athens to assist the Greek Government in any inquiry it may hold. A statement by Imperial Airways says the exact cause of the accident which occurred at the marine air station at Phaleron is not yet known. One of the two uninjured passengers was the Rev. l'Lichard Rees. Mr. Rees said the boat struck the water heavily in bad visibility while alighting. The cabin was immediately swamped. He escaped through a liole in the bottom. The bodies of Wing-Commander Acland and Mr. Henderson were later recovered from the sea. LOST IN SAHARA. SEARCH FOR FRENCH LINER.
