NAVAL WHALERS' RACE.

FOR YACHT CLUB CREWS. CONTEST POSTPONED. The annual race in naval whalers manned by crews from local yacht clubs, which was to have been sailed to-day, starting off H.M.S. Philomel at 2.30 p.m., has been postponed until later in the season, in view of Thursday's accident. Mr. C. H. T. Palmer, chairman of the Yacht and Motor Boat Association, under whose control the race is held in conjunction with the Naval Sailing Club, sent the following message yesterday to Captain I. (i. Glcnnie, D.S.C., R.N., Senior Naval Officer, New Zealand Division of the Royal Navy, Devonport:—"Yacht clubs of Auckland affiliated to the Yacht and Motor Boat Association, extend their sincere sympathy in the sad loss sustained by the New Zealand Division of the Royal Navy yesterday, and suggest the cancellation of the yachtsmen's race in naval whalers arranged for to-morrow afternoon." / The following reply was received by Mr. Palmer from Captain I. G. Glennie, D.S.C., R.N. : "Your kind signal much appreciated by officers and men of the New Zealand Division of the Royal Navy, and also is the sympathetic suggestion for cancellation of the race which was to be held to-morrow. This suggestion is accepted, and the race postponed until later in the season." The race will be sailed possibly during January, when the whalers are again available. Eleven clubs had entered for to-day's race, which is for the Naval Sailing Club's Cup already competed for three times, the winners being Point Chevalier Sailing Club. Takapuna Boating Club and the Royal Akarana Yacht Club. ANNUAL MEETINGS. October 13.—Tamaki Yacht Club.

PAKUTJRE YACHT AND BOATING CLUB. ANNUAL MEETING. The Pan mure Yacht and Boating Club held its annual meeting this week at the office of Messrs. Wilson and Rothery, Panmure Highway, Mr. S. Wilson presiding over an attendance of 50 members. The honorary secretary, Mr. S. Hamlin, presented the report, which reviewed the past season's activities, which had been successful in face of adverse weather conditions, The balance-sheet, also submitted by Mr. Hamlin, showed receipts totalling £ 89 6/6, including donations £ 19 15/, entry fees £ 19 11/, and subscriptions £ 12 4/8. The expenses totalled £70 19/9, leaving a credit balance of £ 18 6/9. Mr. Hamlin pointed out that the items of £ 7 for laying on water to the clubhouse, and incorporating the club, £ 5, would be nonrecurring. Mr. Wilson congratulated Mr. Hamlin on the success of the past season, and thanked him on behalf of members for the 1 continuation of his services rendered for the past 25 years as honorary secretarytreasurer. The following officers were elected for the 1937-38 season : Commodore, Mr. S. Wilson : vice-commodore, Mr. V. Hill ; rearcommodore, Mr. Li. Pilkington ; handicapper, Mr. T. A. Maxwell; starter and judge, Mr. S. Hamlin; club captain, Mr. J. Trail; reporter, Mr. T. A. Maxwell; committee, Messrs. Geo. Vause, E. Aldiss, J. Trail, B. G. Maxwell, A. Taylor, R. Chaffe, and T. A. Maxwell. TAMAKI YACHT CLUB. The Tamafci Yacht Club's annual meeting has been postponed until Wednesday.
