French and British Military Action Needed? BISHOP IS WOBEIED. (Received 12 noon.) VANCOUVER, August 24. Dr. W. J. Sipprell, United Church missionary in China, on arrival here, predicted that British and French military action in China will be compelled. The Anglican Bishop of Honan arrived in Canada for a conference, but received no word from his family at Shanghai and will return by the next boat.

LABOUR IN JAPAN. Action Against Higher Cost Of Living. STRIKES AND AGITATION. TOKYO, August 20. An "adjustment with the Powers concerned in Chinese affairs" is among the demands of the Social Mass Labour party of Japan. Seeking the downfall of the military party, it also demands State control of munition works. It blames expenditure on arms for the high cost of living in Japan. The Social Mass Labour party has 37 seats in the Diet, compared with only six before the recent general election. "Strikes are being reported daily throughout the country," says Mr. Isoq Abe, chief executive of the party. "Japan has never experienced such a wave of labour unrest.' Food prices are up 50 per cent, compared with last year. The Government to-day faces well-organised units of factory workers We are demanding higher wages to o. set higher living costs."
