BOXING.

THE SECOND NIGHT. AMATEUR CONTESTS. PROVINCIAL CHAMPIONSHIPS.

There wera some spirited contests at the Auckland Town Hall last evening when the Auckland Boxing Association's amateur provincial championship tournament was continued. A lack of science was evident in some of the bouts, but the general standard was good, and some of the bouts were so spirited that the issue was in doubt right to the end. The programme was well conducted and as soon as a bout was concluded the con- . testants in the next one "were always ready to go on. In the flyweight eemi-finale H. Sheridan had an easy win from T. Rogers by a technical knock-out, and C. Worth easily got the verdict from T. Cutfield. In the semi-final of the bantam-weight class S. Stock beat H. Ashman on points after a good bout and at the conclusion it w-as announced that a special prize had been given, by a patron to be divided between the two contestants. The titleholder G. Gordon will appear in the final and on his known ability it is expected that he will retain it. A good deal of interest centred in the meeting of B. McKay and W. Phelan in the feather-weight class and although Mcy got the , verdict he had not much to spare, as the Dargaville representative fought hard all the way and used both hie hands well. ~-P- Kell >' and L. G. Donaldson met in the semi-final of the lightweight class and lvelly s hard hitting and fast two-handed attack got him the verdict.
