EPSOM TRACK.

A QUIET MORNING. ARRIVAL OF TAN" JOHtf. It was an off morning at Epeom this morning, and all horses claiming engagements at the Auckland meeting were restricted to strong: unhoppled tasks. Chief interest centred in the arrival of Tan John from Wayerley. This trotter is the only visitor engaged at Epeom, and his presence will add interest to the fixture. He bears a very bright., appearance, and has evidently got through a lot of work. Tan John is not partial to a soft track, but should the going be good on Saturday he should be equal to proving one of the hardest to beat in the Royal Oak Handicap. L. Laver gave his charges Munga Tangi and Great Surprise "plenty of strong work in saddle. Munga Tangi has never looked better, and although he has been a trifle sore of late he has made a good recovery, and should take a lot- of beating ■in the Onehunga Handicap. Laver intends to shift to the Showgrounds next week, where hie will have a team of four. Auto Machine and Luminate, in A. Brown's charge, were keen to hit out faster while covering several rounds at a solid pace. Auto; Machine is in good order, while Laminate is appreciating the easing of the tracks. The three-year-old Hillcrest. .was let off with the lightest of tasks, but paced.boldly over a couple of rounds. This novice- is filling out appreciably, and he should not be hard to place in a maiden event. S. M. August's three pacers, Great Chum, Queenie Direct and Argolis, traversed a couple of miles at. a useful gait. All look well, especially Great Chum, who has never been in better order. Should Great Chum and Arsrolw both start on Saturday in all probability R. August will drive Great Chum. Atarau King was not strapped up, but infused plenty of dash into an essay over about two miles. Thief pacer has improved a great deal during the past couple of weeks, and may be worth considering on Saturday. M. Morrison will drive the chestnut. Young Rodney was not asked for speed over a mile and a half.. He is bearing a bright appearance, and has thrived on his work. L. Laver. will handle the Nelson Bingen gelding in' the Royal Oak Handicap. Although not engaged at the meeting Worthy Quest and Autumn Lou were allowed to stride along over thre~ circuit#!, and were keen to hit out faster. J. Peters has both horses in nice order.?
