FOUR MAIN REASONS.
CAUSE OF ACCIDENTS. UNITED STATES VIEWPOINT. Accidents do not just happen, according to the National Safety Council of America: they are caused. The council estimates the root causes of road miehape as follow: — 1. Inattention. 2. Inexperience. 3. Inconipetency. 4. Indifference. "Inattention is probably the outstanding cauee of motor vehicle deaths and injuries to-day," it states. "The day-dreamer, the scenery watcher, the driver who talke too much, the fellow whose mind runs around in circles—-all of these and others are an easy prey to distractione. "Inexperience exacts heavy toll, too, as doee incompeteney, but jiwt keep in mind that inconipetency does not necessarily mean inexperience. There are a great many 'dumb' drivers to-day who have been at the wheel for yeare. "Indifference, inspired by stubbornness or selfishnees, is aleo too common."
