CHAIRMAN'S DENIAL.
MT. ROSKILL UNEMPLOYED.
• NO PROMISE OF £4 10/ A WEEK. Reference to the complaints of men on the unemployed register working at Mount Eoskill, that the Road Board was not paying 2/3 per Hour, as I reported in the "Star" last evening wae made at the meeting of the board laet night by the chairmen, Mr. G. M. Me- ' Cullough. He said the board was not, breaking any award. He emphatically denied having promised the men £4 10/ for a week of 40 houre. At the request of the acting-Minister of Labour, the 1 Hon. P. C. Webb, he had agreed, on behalf of his board, to emplov 40 men in two relay* of 20, at 2/ per hour. Mr. McCullough moved, and it wae
agreed, that the matter of the employment, of men be left in his hands to co-operate with the foreman of works, and that the men be engaged on the term-, as pureed upon between Mr. Bromlev m<l himself. • On the motion of Mr. J. Donald, the hoard endowed the chairman's replj.
