SHABBY UNIFORMS.
CORONATION CONTINGENT. "AX ABSURD srcOKSTIOX." (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WHAXCAREI, this day. 'To describe the uniforms of the New Zealand Coronation contingent as shabby is absurd,"' said Major H. G. Carruth, of Whanparei. who coinnuindcd the contingent on its return trip to Xew Zealand, in an interview this morning. "The British regiments were for the first time in blue, and the jreneral public and the men preferred khaki. The Xew Zenlanders wore issued with three uniforms, one of khaki drill and two of khaki serge. One was issued for general purposes and one for the Coronation. They were fitted by tailors, and alterations were made to secure a good fit. They heard no suggestion at all in England that the contingent did not look smart, which they did. The Knglish people remembered the X'ow Zcalanders of the war years, when they were always in khaki, and it is an insult to the Xew Zealand Expeditionary Forces to say that the uniforms were shabliv."
