VITAL MISSION.
London Exchanges After Visit to U.S.A. TRADE AND ARMS LIMITATION. British Official Wireless. , (Receiveu 2 p.m.) RUGBY, July 5. Dr. van Zeeland, Prime Minister of Belgium, arrived in London from America. He expressed satisfaction with the result of his visit to the United States and will meet Mr. -Neville Chamberlain and other members of Cabinet to-morrow in connection with his political mission in relation, to the work of rebuilding international trade, monetary cooperation and reduction of armaments.
A joint statement issued by Mr. Roosevelt and Dr. van Zeeland after their Washington talks was the subject of a question to Mr. Chamberlain in the House of Commons as to whether he would consult with President Roosevelt with a view to summoning a world conference for the attainment of the objects of Dr. van Zeeland's mission.
Mr. Chamberlain replied that he thought it was a superficial view to assume that the difficult problems of the world could be solved merely by calling a world conference. However, the British Government was willing to cooperate both by entering into a tripartite agreement and, further, in conjunction with France,, by asking the Belgian Prime Minister to make a series of inquiries about which Mr. Chamberlain hoped to hear from Dr. van Zeeland himself.
An official report issued after a conference between the Prime Minister, Mr. Eden, Dr. van Zeeland and the Belgian Ambassador, said that Dr. van Zeeland's impressions on his recent visit to the United were discussed and agreement rcfi • 1 as to further steps that might useiully be taken in favour of the objects of Dr. van Zeeland's investigations.
