BROTHERS INJURED.

MAORIS' ALLEGED QUARREL ARMS BROKEN—FINGERS SLASHED. » (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) DUNEDIN, Sunday. As a result of a fracas at the Kaik, Moeraki, on Friday night two Maori brothers, Eli and Fuller Porete, were severely injured, necessitating their removal to the Oamaru Public Hospital. Eli Porete is suffering from a deep gash on the head, a cut on the forehead and a fractured arm. Fuller Porete suffered a severe cut on the head, a cut on the foot and had two fingers so severely slashed as to require their amputation. It;is alleged that, as a result of an altercation between Eli Porete and his housekeeper, the woman left hU place and went to his brother's. Later the woman returned, and, finding the house vacant, removed a quantity of bedding and clothing to Fuller Porete's house. Eli Porete, who returned from Dunedin on Friday night, found the articles missing and, it is alleged, armed himself with a hedge slasher. Proceeding to his brother's place, he is said to have roused the occupants by smashing windows. Fuller Porete, it is reported, endeavoured to remonstrate with his brother, but the men got into a heated argument and came to blows, Eli using the slasher and Fuller a double-barrelled shotgun. It is alleged that a shot was fired. As a result of the fight both the slasher and the gun were broken.
