SHEEP WORRIED.

DOGS KILL THREE.

CORNWALL PARK TROUBLE.

FIRES.

Three sheep were killed by doge at Cornwall Park last night, while another hae been so badly worried that it will probably have to be destroyed. Dogs were also on the One Tree Hill side of the reserve on Sunday. These are the lirat occasions that sheep on the park have been worried by dogs this winter. As the result of Sunday's visitation two lambs were born prematurely. When the two ewee killed last night were examined it was found that they carried two lambs each. A telephone call at 1.15 a.m. gave the superintendent of the park, Mr. W. (;. Batt, the information that dogs were about. Taking his gun he made a tour of the paddocks. Two terriers were chasing the sheep in the paddock near the infirmary and he could hear other dogs barking in the pasture past the sunken garden, where there are 16 valuii bio rams. Thie paddock fronts Campbell Road. r Mr. Batt said he fired several shots, but it was difficult to eight the intruders in the uncertain light of the electric torch he was carrying, particularly ;is at the same time he ha I to fire the gun. One of the dogs ran into the torch beam and "Mr. Batt thinke it has only one eye. It is a medium-sized dog, with a dark coat. He managed to frighten the marauders away and patrolled the paddocks until 3.30 a.m., when heavy rain drove him indoors. One of the eheep was found lying in the remains of hie own wool, with bloodstains on ite hindquarters. It was not quite dead, and had obviously been run to the stage where it could move no further. It will probably have to be destroyed. Anyone seeing the damage done to animals that are quite helpless can easily understand why all dogs in the reserve area must be on leaehee, and why strays are shot at on eight.
