BIBLE IN SCHOOLS.

AUCKLAND BRANCH REVIEW.

The opening daily religious observances in schools were described as the outstanding achievement of the year at the annual meeting of the Auckland branch of the Bible-in-Schools League, at which satisfaction was expressed at the progress made in this direction. The year 1936 would be remembered as a landmark, it was stated, in the commencement of these activities in the Auckland education district.

A total of 3500 copies of the league's booklet had been issued from the Auckland office since the opening of the school year, stated the annual report, and it was claimed that 60 institutions were beginning the day with a five minutes' devotional service, that figure including about 12 schools in the vicinitv of Hamilton.

The replies received from schools testified to the general approval of the scheme. The report added that a syllabus for use in conducting religious instruction under the Nelson system would soon be available and that six out of the nine education boards in New Zealand had sanctioned daily devotional services.

Archbishop Averill was re-elected president and Canon W. Farcourt chairman of the provincial executive.
