INTOXICATED MOTORIST.
PAPATOETOE COLLISION.
Norman Newman Walding, aged 33 a waterside worker, pleaded guilty to' a charge of being intoxicated in charge of a motor car before Messrs S. Rickards and J. V. Lawes, J.P.'s, in the Police Court at Otahiihu.
Sergeant .T. Daley stated that shortlv after five o'clock on Wednesday evenin'" the highways chief inspector, Mr. Ains" worth, was driving northward on the Great South Road at Papatoetoc when he saw a car ahead being driven in an erratic manner. Before he could stop the car it swerved across the road and collided with a car which was parked outside a service station. Accused, who was driving the car. was taken' into custody and medically certified to be unfit to be in charpe of a vehicle. In convicting accused Mr. S. Rickards said that the Bench was of the opinion that in view of warnings and recent publicity accorded no reasonable excuse could be offered by a motorist who consumed liquor while in charge of a car. If their judgment was impaired by liquor and they persisted in driving they must face the consequences. However, this was not such a had case and accused would be fined £10, plus costs, and his license would be cancelled for the remainder of the current term.
