BOXING.
BISHOP AND OOWNES.
Monday night's professional welterweight contest between Barney Downes, of Wellington, whose aggressive methods contributed to his defeat of Bill Pluto, and Herb Bishop, junior welter-weight champion of Australia, gives every promise of being a really first-class fight. Downed' rugged non-stop style is certain to appeal to the Auckland public, and in meeting Bishop he will be opposed to a fighter of similar ring principles. When opposed to Billy Martin, Bishop displayed excellent ring technique. He took the tight to the clever Queenslauder, and literally took i' away from him. An excellent programni of amateur contests will precede the mail* event.
