A DINNER PARTY FOR DELEGATES.

National Council

Executive Entertains.

A dinner party, organised by the executive of the Auckland branch of the National Council of Women, was given in the Lyceum Club last night for a number of Australian and New Zealand delegates to the Pan-Pacific Women's Conference to be held in Vancouver in July, this* year. Miss Ellen Melville and Miss E. Griffin acted as joint hostesses.

Delegates representing Australia were: Mrs. Preston Stanley Vaughan, Mrs. L. Gapp, Mrs. M. Keogli (an associate member), Miss Doris M. McKae (secretary of the Australian delegation), and Miss Margaret Gilchrist. Representing New Zealand were: Misses Elsie Andrews, of New Plymouth (leader of the New Zealand delegation), P. Taylor, Clare Hawkins, of Hamilton, ond Miss Nell Noble, of Thames (an associate member).

After dinner, addresses were given by Mrs. A aughan and Misses Mcßae, Andrews. Taylor, Melville and Griffin. In her address Miss Andrews laid stress on the fact that the idea of holding a Pan-Pacific Conference for Women originated in New Zealand. The first gathering of this society took place in 1928, and was officially formed in 1930, with the objects of making altruistic efforts to crystallise the viewpoints of the women in the Pacific countries.

An address -was given by Mrs. Vaughan on the benefits of establishing a union between the Pan-Pacific Association and the British-American Co-opera-tion of New South Wales. After the conclusion of the conference Mrs. Vaughan will tour America in the interests of the British-American Co-opera-tion in an effort to establish world peace. Miss Taylor spoke on the work of the educational section of the conference, and Miss Mcßae spoke on behalf of the Australian delegation. Among those present were: Mesdames A. M. Hutchinson, H. Colwill, E. McNair, Misses Elsie Bennet. Alice Basten, M. Slingsbv Newman. G. M. Hemus, B. Carnaclian, Johnston. M. Taylor. E. M. Newton. THizaljeth Lorrimer. Lee, I Tuttill. Leila Lnngsford. Alice GrevilleJ Olive Foster and S, E, Jackson.
