WOMEN AND SUSTENANCE.
To those unacquainted with the actual fartof tlie matter. Miss Ellen Melville's letter would prove enlightening. However. the e>?>ence of the whole question is thi-—of tlie whole amount received in unemployment taxation from women what proportion has been allocated to women's sustenance? This is the basic test. And "this only. Again, in strict justice, the whole amount should have been allocated. By tlie way. 14/ per week mi<tenance is a munificent figure. That is. until faced by the cold realities of life. So mmli. too, depends on whether one. personally, happens to be the recipient or merely the other woman! To maintain women have not received sustenance benefits, of course, is denied hy facts. To maintain, however, that they have received due benefits is absolutely denied bv tlie dictates of fair play and justice. Ard these qualities alone are the basis of judgment. G. HAMILTON" FRASER.
