EMPIRE COMPETITION. South Africa Wins King's Trophy.—St. Patrick's College Excels. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. The result of the Empire competition, for cadets and students of schools and colleges, in miniature rifle shooting has been released for publication by the General Officer Commanding. New Zealand Defence Forces. The King's trophy was won by South Africa, with Great Britain and New Zealand in second and third places respectively. There were 28,005 competitors, an increase of 10f)0 on last year. For the King's trophy. South Africa scored an average of 54.317, Great Britain 82.720. and New Zealand 77.702. New Zealand took fourth place in the number of medal honours won, securing 38 silver medals for scores of 100 points, and 17 bronze for scores of 99 points. C Company, Third Cadet Battalion Wellington Regiment (St. Patrick's College, Silverstreani) won second place for the Earl Jellicoe Sword, with an average score of 95.886, and took fifth place on the Empire honours list. B and C Companies, First C Battalion, Wellington-West Coast Regiment (Wangauui Technical College) secured 77th place; A Company, First t Battalion. Wellington-West Coast Regiment (Wanganui Collegiate) secured 76th place, and D Company, Fhv»t C Battalion, Wellington-West Coa<st Regiment (Taihapo District High School) 93rd place. There were thirteen other New Zealand teams included in the list. An instructor's medal was won bv W, O. Taylor, of St. Patrick's College., Silverstreani.
