PURCHASES BY DOMINION. BRITAIN'S LARGE SHARE. The volume of motor imports into | New Zealand, "which showed an increase in dutiable value of £1,339,079 last year, is well sustained in a return for the first • three months of! 1937 supplied. to tho " Star" by the Comptroller •of Customs. In 193G the total value of the imports of all motor vehicles was £4,547,205, and the value of the imports for the first three months of this year is £1,442,801. The number of motor cars imported into New Zealand during the three months was 7975, of a value of £1,210,043. Of this number there were 3043 assembled cars, of which 2G46 came from the United Kingdom. The United States" sent. 392 and Canada live. In the unassembled or completely "knocked down" class the total was 4935. The United Kingdom sent the. greatest number, 2055; Canada 1958, and U.S.A. 922. The value of the unassembled vehicles from"- Canada : was"* £305,37l';*"*"'ffgainsV £297;339 from the United Kingdom. Of the total number of imported cars 1440 came to Auckland, ...1201 being assembled; 1050 of them came from the United Kingdom, against 144 from U.S.A. Of the unassembled cars, 231 came from the .United Kingdom and five from U.S.A.
There were Ml 2 commercial vehicles niul chassis imported, to-the value of £232,819. Auckland imported S4, valued a ' f14>075." The most important eoimtrv of origin of the commercial vehicles was Canada, which sent 808, compared with M.i from the United Kingdom and 179 from U.S.A.
