RECORD LOAN POLL.

GARDEN PLACE HILL PLAN. PROPOSAL REJECTED. • (By Telegraph—Own Correspondent.) HAMILTON, this day. At the heaviest poll ever recorded in Hamilton municipal affairs, the £89,000 Garden Place Hill loan proposal, submitted to ratepayers by the Hamilton Borough Council yesterday, was turned down by a margin of 213 votes, there being 1384 votes against the proposal and 1171 in favour, with 83 declarations yet to come. The number of votes cast was twice as many as recorded at the waterworks loan poll in 1929.

The £89,000 was to have been used to remove Garden Place Hill and to provide traffic outlets and other improvements. The returns of the various booths were as follow:—
