TROTTING.

WAIKATO CLUB. HANDICAPS DECLARED. REVIEW OF CHIEF EVENTS. The Waiknto Trotting Club's autumn meeting, to be held at Claudelands on May S, has drawn •exceptionally good fields, and the success of the fixture seems assured. The presence of several horses from outside the Auckland province will lend interest to tlie meeting, and judging by the class engaged there is likely to be keen competition in all event*. The following is a review of the form of the candidates down to contest the principal events: — The Coronation Cup. Fifteen entries were received for the Coronation Cup, and at this juncture the issue appears open. Winaway has previously displayed ability to run out two miles, but she failed to race as well as expected at the Hawera meeting during the Easter holidays. She has freshened up since her return, and is working eoundly at Takanini. Valdor ie a well-performed pacer from the South, but most of his best performances have been registered over shorter distances, and maybe he will not be troubled to run out the extr.i half-mile on this occasion! Great Jewel k giving away 3s to compete, and in an probability he will not accept. However, should he make the final payment he should beat more than beats him. Kewpie'e King showed good form at Epsom early in the-year, but disappointed at Hawera. There was some excuse for him, however, at the latter fixture, jus he was suffering from a severe cold, and was.not fit to show his beet. He has made a good recovery, and ie working soundly at Takanini. He ie sure to be one of the chief fancies, while a soft track would further enhance his proepecte. Ironside has not shown any form for some time, but thie ie an easier class, and he cannot be disregarded. Impostor won a double at Epsom last Saturday in first-class style, and although he has previously failed over the last little bit of two miles he ie in such fine form that he ie likely to Ret support. Manco. who has been off the scene for eome time, does not appeal. and should be held safely by Glorietta. This mare was responsible for a fine effort in the Manawatu Trotting Cup. which she won off 48yds. and she is favourably placed to extend her winning record. Kenworthy raced in brilliant fashion on the Taranaki circuit during the Easter holidays, and as he has taken no harm from his exertions his prospects look second to none. Lady Fame was interfered with in the Fergusson Handicap at Epsom last Saturday, and no notice need be taken of her running, while ehe was very unlucky to lose the Panatoetoe Handicap. This mare is in rare condition, and she will have plenty of friends. King's Guide has proved a disappointment in hie last few starts, but hae previously won over the distance on thie course. Our MeKinney is set a hard task on 48yds. as he is not a real stayer, while Bingen Chief may need a race or two before being seen at hie best. Star Pronto has the ability, but cannot always be relied upon to pace correctly. However, should lie go rialit lie would not be out of it off 60yds. Gold Dredse is the backmarker, but may find it difficult to give a start and a beatiner to some of those nearer th<> front. Soim» that may appeal at this stasro are: Konworthy. Glorietta. Kewpie's King. Lady Fame and Tmpostor.

Chief Sprint Race. Thirteen of the seventeen pacers down to contest the Kaipaki Handicap, the chief sprint event of the day, are also engaged in the Coronation Cup. and their earlie* running may prove a good guide. Storm Queen has not shown any form for a long time, and there does not seem any reason to expect her to go any better on this occasion. Winaway is favourably placed in this event, and as she will lie coupled with Impostor the pair are assured of support. Vaklor is a tine performer over the distance, and lie may be one of the hardest to beat, while Kewpies King cannot be discarded. Ironside ran an excellent second to Our MrKinney over a mile and a quarter at his Inst appearance on the course, and he is likely to play a prominent part. Glorietta and Kenworthy are sure to en well, provided they receive no penalty for their earlier effort. Ringtrue was confidently supported in the Papatoetoe Handicap v at Knsom last Saturday, but after being in front until the straight was reached failed tr> finish on. and was well beaten. This horse i< not living up to his earlier promise, and he will have to improve a good deal before ho can be reckoned back to his best. King's Play is one of the most promising horses in tlte sport, and he has not been over-raced. He won at his last start, and if produced on Saturday week will command a lot of attention. Of thp remainder the best mnv be Star Pronto, who is nartieiilarlv brilliant over tho distance. Some like'v to set solid snnport are: Kenwortliv. Glorietta, Ironside. Valdor and King's Play. The handicaps are: —
