AMONG CHILDREN.

OLD MAN'S LAST WISH.

LAUNDRY VAN AS HEARSE. An ex-alderman, Mr. George Church, of Ilford, who died recently at the age of 92, by his own wish had a laundry van for his hearse. Mourners wore coloured ties and lounge suits and there were no wreaths and no procession. Mr. Church drew up instructions for his funeral six years ago. These stipulated that lii« plain deal coffin should have no nails, polish or fittings, and that no blinds should he drawn in mourning for him.

His coffin, filled with ivy leaves, lay in the church attached to Dr. Barnardo's Girls' Village Home at Barkingside, with which he had been connected for sixty years. He was borne to his grave in the private cemetery ar<ion°; the children to whom he had devoted his life, in the laundry van belonging to the home.
