LIBERALS' BANNER.
FIVE CAMPAIGN POINTS.
COMING FIGHT IN BRITAIN.
The president of the British Liberal party organisation, Lord Meston, said recently that Liberalism stood midway between the "rowing dangers of dictatorial politics and Communistic chimeras. If there were no room between these two for a party of reason and justice room would have to be made. Liberalism had to elbow its way back into influence and power, expect no quarter from either side, and give none. He summarised the Liberal creed for the coming campaign under five points: First, a pursuit for peace under a reformed and strengthened League of Nations. Secondly, the gradual restoration of freedom in the trade and exchanges of the world; a reversal of the policy of Ottawa, a cordial support to France and the United States in their projects for the gradual reduction of international tariffs. Thirdly, the protection of true democracy and resistance to all encroachments upon it from either the Right or the Left; and a sensible electoral system which would give Liberalism its proportional share in the legislature. Fourthly, employment and nutrition, through a wiser handling of the trade of the world in the necessities af life. Fifthly, a better diffusion of property, in order to ensure to our people a closer interest in their own land and the greater freedom from the anxieties of poverty and destitution. Under a banner with these five 'points inscribed upon it, and with four years of hard, unselfish work, he foresaw the certainty of providing Great Britain at the next general election with a true alternative to the present National Government.
