BLAZE IN HOUSE.

NEWSPAPER NEAR STOVE.

(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)

WHANGAREI, Friday

A newspaper being dried over a plate rack on a gas stove caused an outbreak of fire at the home of Mr. N. Bateman, Third Avenue, this morning. The paper burst into flames, and other materials suspended above the stove caught alight, so that the flames licked the ceiling. The occupants of the house did well in stifling the fire in its early stages, and the Whangarei fire brigade completed the work, the damage being slight.
