RAILWAY LINK.
TANEATUA-OPOTIKI.
EXTENSION TO BE MADE.
'PROMISE WILL BE HONOURED'
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)
WHAKATANE, this day.
Resident* of Opotiki and along the route of the proposed Taneatua-Opotiki extension of the East Coast line have been urging that the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage, should redeem his promise to complete the line to Opotiki.
Mr. A. G. Hultquist, M.P. for Bay of Plenty, has received the following message from Mr. Savage:—
"Regret that I have had no earlier opportunity of replying to your letter of 24th ultimo, but as you will know a great deal of my time since that date has been spent out of Wellington under conditions that did not permit my attending to correspondence. However, you may assure your constituents that promises made by me will be honoured in full, and that a start will be made on the Taneatua-Opotiki railway as soon as more urgent matters have been disposed of."
