CYCLING TOURIST.
WLXTFF TO AtrCKIiAWD. EN ROUTE TO CORONATION. To catch the Niagara for America with a view to cycling across the United States to New York, and thence travelling on by the Queen Mary to Britain to represent the Combined Cyclists' Battalion at the Coronation, H. K. MeKenzie, of Adelaide, arrived by cycle at Auckland yesterday afternoon, having. cycled up the two islands from . the Bluff. Mr. MeKenzie, originally a Mangaweka boy, has made, a name as a touring cyclist in Australia. and elsewhere, and recently organised cycling events in connection with the recent South Australian Centenary celebration, and he proposes organising a. Bluff to Auckland cycle race in connection with the Auckland Centenary of 1940. He took nine' days on the trip, but considers that under racing conditions the journey would be made in seven days. Mr. MeKenzie expects to make'the ride of 3020 miles from San Francisco to New York in ' approximately 298 hours, and after the Coronation he proposes to circle Great Britain and return via France, Egypt and Colombo to Australia. In 1934 he went round Great- Britain on. the Land's End to John o' Groats course, and went through the Continental countries.
