HEAD CRUSHED BY WAGON. ROTORUA CAMPING TRAGEDY. iHj Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) ROTORUA, this day. A territorial, Farrier Serjeant Shirley Roland Hargreaves, aged 23, of Auckland, attached to the 4th Field Battery, R.N.Z.A., at present jn camp at Arawa Park Rotorua, was killed instantly yesterday afternoon when he was thrown from a horse under the wheels of a heavy military wagon. .

Sergeant Hargreaves and a companion, Bombardier Morey, were endeavouring to harness a team of two homes to the wagon. They yoked them up, but Bombardier Morey decided to go for assistance, as the horses were giving a lot of trouble. He was returning in company with Sergeant S. W. Nicholson When they saw one of the horses rear violently and unseat Sergeant Hargreaves, who was mounted on its back.

Sergeant Hargreaves fell upon the pole bar, striking his head as he fell. The horses immediately took fright and bolted.

The unfortunate man clung to the bar for about 20 yards before he lost his grip and |fell underneath the wagon, one of the wheels passing over his head and killing him instantly.

Known as a very capable rider and horseman, Sergeant Hargreaves was a very popular member of the battery. His body is being sent to Auckland for burial.
