JAPANESE VISITORS.
APPEARANCE AT WELLINGTON. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Saturday. Conditions were not pleasant when the Japanese athletes, K. Murakoso and I. K. Togami, made their appearance at the Basin Reserve on Saturday. Fine rain was falling when , the meeting opened. The attendance was large. The first of the visitors to appear was Togami in the broad jump, in which T. J. Crowe, the national champion, also competed. Jumping with the wind Togami cleared 23ft lOiin, equalling J. P. Metcalfe's New Zealand record. Crowe jumped 22ft 2}in. Mnrakoso, making his first appearance in the mile in New Zealand, won nicely by 45 yards in 4.29 4-5. Mies K. Callinan (Canterbury) won the women's 100 yards from scratch. Results: — Broad Jump Handicap.''— K. Togami (Japan), 28ft 10|ln, 1; T. J. Crowe (handicap lft), 23ft 2Jin, 2; T. McDonald (4ft), 23ft Oiin, 3. The competitors jumped with the wind. Togami's jump equalled the New Zealand record. One Mile.—K. Murakoso, Japan, 1; T. Bartlett, (70yds) 2, l<. Black (30yds) 3. Won by 43yds." Time, 4.29 4-5. High Jump.—T. Crowe (handicap' lin), Kt lOin, 1; J. S. Adams (41 in), sft BJin, 2; O. Hunter (3in). Sft Sin, S. K. Togami (Japan) jumped sft 7in. Hop, Step and Jump.—D. Bade (handicap Sft), 48ft 10Jin, 1; K. Togami (Japan), 48ft lOin, 2; T. McDonald (handicap sft), 45ft BJin, 8. . Three 250 yds, 1; D. St. Scrymgeour, 280 ft, 2; S. McCalman. 3. Time, 14.24 3-5. K. Murakoso (Japan) mistook the bell for the finish and stopped. He was then within 30yds of the leader, A. J. Maekay (230 yds). who finished first but was disqualified.
