Sir !• rodeiio I,an«» lia<l a lont; and varied political career. He retired from active polities in 1031. when he ceased to he a memlior of the Legislative Council by the effluxion of time. Horn at Bhiekheath. Kent, in IS.V 2. he was the youngest son of tile late Mr. Oliver Lnnjr. of Vaiiliurjrh Park, lil/ickheatli. lie was educated at the local school in his native place and at the ape of l!l years left Knijland for Auckland. Shortly atler liis arrival he settled in the Waikato district and bewail fanning near the Waipa River. During his term in the Waipa ive.i he was chairman of the Tiitukaramea Road Hoard, chairman of the Waipa County Council and also of the Waikato Hospital and < haritahle Aid Boaid for many years. in IKO3 lie was elected M.H.R. for Waipa by a majority of Otto votes over Mr. Cerald Peacock and three years later was returned for the electorate of Waikato by an overwhelming majority. At the general election in lSflO he polled 2337 votes to his opponent's 201 .">. It was in the election of lOOti that Mr. Liinir, as lie was then known, contested and won the Manukau seat, and he was Chairman of Committees from 1012 till the following year, when he was elected Speaker of the House of Representatives, a position he livid till lie was defeated bv the present Hicrh Commissioner. Mr. W. .1. Jordan. in the election held in December. 1022. bv 259 votes in the year 1024 Sir Frederic was appointed to the Legislative -"rumen. In 1023 he received Royal permission to retain the title of honourable and lie was created a Knight Bachelor during his Speakership. Sir Frederic was un-jan ied.
