LEAGUE OF MOTHERS.
ANNUAL CONFERENCE. I MANY DELEGATES ATTEND. 1 Over 400 delegates attended the annual provincial conference of the League of Mothers, held yesterday in the Catholic Women's rooms. A service was held in St. Patrick s Cathedral prior to the meeting. Members were addressed by the lit. Rev. ]>r. Liston. who said that it was a privilege for him to welcome them, and to be associated with the splendid work they were doing for the dignity and sanctity of motherhood in the Dominion. The provincial president, Mrs. S. O. English, presided over the meeting, reading messages of greeting from Mrs. Bates (Wanganui), Mrs. Renner and Mrs. Littlejohn. A discussion on the future policy of the league was opened by Miss Davis, who suggested that an organising secretary be appointed to form branches and to strengthen those that had been newly formed. It was suggested that in order to carry out the proposed scheme a small sum should be levied on each member. It was suggested by Mrs. P. D. Wright that provincial oflicers should visit the town and country branches at least once a year. Such visits would stimulate interest, and make members feel that they belonged to a body working in a common cause. The use and abuse of pocket money for children was discussed by Mrs. E. Ohms, and the question of finding suitable central hulls for holding meetings of the league was brought forward by Mrs. Wright. Morning tea was served, and a cordial vote of thanks was passed to Dr. Liston for his address.
