SYSTEM OF BETTING.

SINGLE POOL ADVOCATED. Members of the Canterbury Owners' and Breeders' Association want the clubs to revert to the single pool system of betting, and two dividends in the ratio of 75 per cent and 25 per cent. A resolution to this effect was carried unanimously at a recent meeting of the association. Owners and breedrs are pronounced in their condemnation of the win and place system, and maintain that the single pool method would be in the best interests of the «port. They intend approaching the clubs with a view to inducing them to revert to the old system. The association maintains that the increased totalisator returns are due to the improvement of the times. It contends that the statement that the win and place system is in vogue in other parts of the worid is not a fair comparison, because New Zealand has only a small population, and the amount invested on the machines is much smaller than in the other countries.
