PAPATOETOE RATES.
SATISFACTORY COLLECTION.' CREDIT BALANCE SHOWN. A report of rates levied and collected for the year ending March 31, 11>37, up to the date when the 10 per cent |>eiialty accrued, was phiced before the meeting of the l'apatoetoe Town Board last evening. The report showed tliat out of a total rate levy of £Sso:i, £t>!»B.'>, which represented 85.<> per cent, had been collected. Percentages collected over the past three years were »ho\vn as follows: l!>3;{-34, 75.18; 1934-3."), 81.54; l!l35-3«. 84.48. The report pointed out that of the total rates levied for the year. £:$47 was on properties which had reverted to the Crown, or of which the State Advances Su|>erititendent was mortgagee in possession. also that arrears amounting to £78(i had Itecn collected. At the meeting last evening a credit balance of £"21 11/ti was shown, while account* totalling £2;iß 12/ were passed for payment. The chairman. Mr. W. -I. Nicholson, pointed out that when the accounts were passed for payment the debit balance would lie £'212. as compared with a debit balance of £1032 18/ at the corresponding meeting last year. "The vear i s prtigres-'ing very favourably,'' he said, "and if we carry on as we are we will have a very good start for the next, financial year." Mr. 1.. J. Kendall: It is a better position than it would have been had we been able to carry out all the work which was provided for in the year's estimates. ' The report was received.
