ARRIVAL OF MAILS.
CRITICISM OF DELAYS. POSITION AT THAMES, (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondpnt.) THAMES, this day. Tho late arrival of morning mailr- to Thames due to trains not connecting, wls dismissed at this morning's meeting of the Thames Chamber of Commerce Council. "The jwsition has been worse in the past month than it has been at any time in the last ten years." said the president, Mr. C. J. Garland. It was decided to communicate with the Post-master-General, the Hon. F. Jones, and the Minister of Railways, the Hon. D. G. Sullivan, complaining of the service.
The fact that two Thames goods transports services had been licensed only until May 31, instead of for three years, and also that these operators have been advised by the Transport Licensing Authority to communicate with the Railway Department, was also mentioned by Mr. Garland, who stated that these operators would be put off the road if there was not strong public support for their retention. He said he was not expressing an opinion as to whether they were justified or not. but he considered that the views of the business people should be ascertained.
It was decided that a committee should interview business people and report to the next meeting. It was decided that the president should bring the question of unemployed men receiving sustenance on application, before a meeting of dele-rate* of th» Association of Country Hiambers of Conmieroe; to be held at Paeroa this month.
It was agreed that the Minister of Lands, the Hon. K. Lactone, be communicated with reminding him of his promise when he visited Thames to put 20 men on reafforestation work in the Upper Kauaeranga. Valley.
