NELSON STREET EXTENSION. NEGOTIATIONS FOR LAND. A special meeting to hear objections to the council's proposal to acquire certain land under the Public Works Act for making a new city street, the Nelson Street extension, was held yesterday by the Auckland City Council. The Mayor, Mr. Ernest Davis, presided. Mr. A. K. North represented the Guardian Trust and Executors Company of New Zealand, Ltd., and Mr. A. Burns the trustees of John Dawson, deceased, and Beatrice Butterworth. The ciity solicitor was represented by Mr. C. Bowler. The objections had been lodged on the grounds that the land intended to be taken was in excess of the area actually required, and that no access would be available to the new street for the balance of the land. Mr. North said he understood negotiations were proceeding satisfactorily, and, if they were carried into effect, the other land would not have to be taken. They were happy to leave the matter to the council for the negotiations to continue. Mr. Burns said the only point he had to raise was that of procedure, as they desired to save the expense of retransfers of land. , Authority was given the Mayor, Mr. Ernest Davis, and the town clerk to complete the negotiations. The council also confirmed the special order passed at a previous special meeting sanctioning the Grafton Bridge reconstruction loan of £2.1.000. The Mayor announced that all formalities had been completed.
