DEFY LEAGUE?
NAZI MOVE AT DANZIG. * Ruse to Vote a Totalitarian State. DEPUTIES IMPRISONED. United Press Association.—Copyright. (Received 1 p.m.) WARSAW, February 9. The Danzig Senate has handcuffed constitutionalism by enacting that all Deputies prevented from participating iu the session will lose their seats. This affects all imprisoned or escaped members of the Opposition and may enable the Nazis to secure the twothirds majority necessary to change the Free City into a totalitarian State. Some oppositionists, risking gaol, threaten to refer the matter to the League as complete defiance of its authority. NAZI PLOTTERS. Restore Polish Silesia to Germany. » PRISON SENTENCES. (Received 11 a.m.) WARSAW, February 9. The allegation that a secret organisation was planning to restore Polish Silesia to Germany was made when 29 Nazis were sentenced to from 18 to 30 months' imprisonment with the loss of civil rights for five years. It was alleged that they planned a military Rising while in communication with the German Gestapo (secret police), and that they had sworn allegiance to Herr Hitler. Large numbers escaped to Germany before the trial. A Danzig message says the Nazi secret police arrested 18 more Social Democrats. BRUTAL LANGUAGE. ENGLISH ATTACK ON NAZIS. LONDON, February 4. In strong and even brutal language, "The Banker," a monthly magazine regarded as the semi-official mouthpiece of the city, opposes further loans to Germany. It is believed .that the article, which caused a sensation, marks the turning point in the city's policy to Germany. "It is clear," says the article, "that German political leaders, gambling for their livelihood, are prepared to gamble the lives of their people. Germany's ruthless foreign policy and the blatant threat to peace of her vast rearmament has caused distrust to spread far beyond Europe. ' "Goering says the Government prefers guns to butter. No one with any real knowledge of the conditions of Germany accepts this gangster logic. "Any financial or territorial concessions to the present German regime would serve to perpetuate the gangster tyranny which forced Europe to become an armed camp. "We should give no concession to a country dominated by men worshipping force, who have shown no hesitation in using murder as an instrument of domestic foreign policy. The notion of English money stemming the tide of Communism in Germany is inherently ridiculous. The money is more likely to be used for poison gas and other delect-1 able munitions."
