MARTHA COMPANY. OPERATIONS AT MINE. SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT. A brief telegraphed summary of operations at tlie Martha mine l'or the period ended November 21 lias already been publisher! in these columns. The extended report of the superintendent. .Mr. H. W. Hopkins, lias now become available, and follows*: — MARTHA COMPANY'S AREA. No. 14 Level.—Edward lode. Trout block : Truck sampling of the excess ore drawn from this block averaged 114/0 per ton. Martha lode, (Jin block : Ore breaking was carrietl to 150 ft above the level. Truck sampling of tlie ore drawn averaged 22, 3 per ton. No. 12, Level—Roynl lode, Keptile block: Ore breaking is now at 133 ft above tlie level. The ore drawn during tlie period averaged 10/1 per ton. Martha lode. Webb East block : Ore breaking is in operation at 74ft up. The broken ore tlrawn averaged 18/4 per ton. No. 11 (75ft) Sub-level. —Edward lode. Snapper block : Ore breaking should be in operation in this block during the coming period. No. 10 (07ft up) Level.— Martha lode, Bullson block : Ore breaking ha.-" been carried to 47ft above the level. The broken ore rlrawn off averaged 15/11 per ton. Britannia block : Ore breaking is in progress at 49ft above the level. The broken ore drawn off averaged 13/10 per ton. No. !) (23ft up I l.evel. —Welcome lode, centre section west of Iris rise: The west drive was advanced 35ft in payable ore, making a total of 47ft, where old tilling is seen on the north side. The Urive is stopped at this point. A stoping block known as Iris will be opened up here. The block is estimated to contain 11.3120 tons of good payable ore. The stopc will he tilled with waste material as the ore is drawn off. No. 0 Level.—Martha lode. Foal block : Ore breaking is in operation at 9Sft up. Truck sampling of the broken ore ilrawn averaged 120/ per ton. Martha lone, north branch, east of Foal north crosscut: Driving was advanced to 50Jft. The average assay value from 22ft to 48ft is 21/5 per ton. The vein is about 2ft Oin wide. No. S Level.—Edward lode, west branch : The south-west tirive has been continued to 150 ft. Assay value was irregular due to the presence of sulphide patches here ami there. From 130 ft to the face the east wall only is seen. Royal lode: From 090 ft to 777 ft east of No. 5 shaft southeast crosscut there is a width of 7ft of sulphide ore on the south wall, which it is intended to stope. Calculating tlie height to 40ft above the level, tlie block _is estimate! to contain 1740 tons. No. 7 Level. — Martha lode, north branch : At 50ft up Giddens rise a crosscut was commenced and driven south-east a total of 40ft. This is being driven with tlie object of locating tiie vein upon which Gidilens winze was sunk below No. o level. No. 5 Level. — Edward lode, west part : Ore breaking in McEnteer block was stopped at 41ft above the level owing to tlie value falling. Some ore was off during the period. No. 4 Level. — Martha lr>*le. north branch, west of Gordon crosscut : This drive was continued to 068 ft. The drive followed u very flat vein to 058 ft, where it junctions with the Martha lode. The work has exposed lengths of good grarie ore separated by stretches of low value, with the width varying between 2ft and sft. At 041 ft point a crotvcut is being driven north-west with the object of getting over the top of Cornea rise, where it will be necessary to sink about 10ft to connect. The ventilation should be much improved when a connection is ma\le. No. 3 Level.— Edward lode, east part: At a point 40ft in No. 2 shaft south-east crosscut crosscutting south will be commenced with the object of intersecting the east part of lode under the point where New Trout block is being stoped upwarvls from No. 2 level. No. 2 Level.—Bell reef : Gardiner rise, at 00ft west of the 434 ft crosscut, was continued to 70ft and connected to No. 1 level in Bell south cross-cut. The Tire throughout in this rise was of good grade, varying in width from 2ft to 3ft. GRAND JUNCTION AREA. Junction No. 10 Level.—Empire imle : At 45nft west of No. 1 shaft south-east crosscut a rise fur a quartz pass is being constructed and through which the broken ore in l'ahy and Ellis blocks at Martha Company's No. 13 1< vel will be drawn and hauled up the Junction shaft. Junction No. 9 Level.— Empire lode. No. 10 pass block: All the available ore that can be drawn through the quartz passes has been obtained. The ore now lying on the top of the drive slabs is being brought down and shovelled up from floor of level. During the period S3l tons were obtained, assaying 21/3 per ton. Junction No. 8 Level.—Royal lode, No. 4 winze: Driving west at 01ft down the winze was resumed and curried to 67ft. where work was stopped. Summarised, the work done at this level has openetl up a total length of 90ft east and west of the winze in ore assaying 31/5 per ton over a width of sft. Junction No. 7 ("3ft up) Level.—Empire lode. No. 18 pass block : Ore breaking has been carried to 44ft above the level. Assay value - of the ore drawn —41S tons — averaged 22 0 per ton. Junction No. 7 (59ft up) Level.—George lode. Want block : Ore breaking is now at 24ft above the level and 142 tons were drawn during the period. Junction No. 7 Level. — Empire lode. Wells south block : Oro from here is now being shovelled up: 133 tons were obtained assaying 24/7 per ton. Martha Company's No. 10 Level.—Ulster loile: 128 tons were obtained from the Junction section of this block, the average assay value being 26 3 per ton. Junction No. (1 (21ft up) Level. —Royal lode, south part. Dye block: A total o£ 118 tons was obtained, assaying 45/7 per ton. Junction No. 6 Level.—Royal lode. \'n, 10 puss block : Excess ore amounting to 186 tons was drawn from the eastern portion of the block, tlie assay value being 20/9 per toil. Royal lode. Gibbons block: 755 tons were obtained, tlie assay value being 17' per ton. The ore is becoming difficult to draw owing to the flatness of the loxle. Royal lode, south part : At 603 ft point a crosscut was driven north 38.1 ft. forming a trucking way for the loose ore from No. 3 pass block; 132 tons were obtained, assaying 18/10 per ton. Martha Company's No. 8 Level. — Royal lode, east of footwall gangway north crosscut : Driving east was continued to 161 ft. The average assay value from 00ft to 155 ft is 31/4 per ton and the width about 3ft. YIELDS OF COMPANIES. Mossy Creek (West Coast*.—lloz Sdwt. for 123 hours and SOSO yards. Dredging worked ground all week. Ritnti (West Coast).—Last week. 2040z Sdwt, for 128 hours and/49,520 yards.
